Thanks to the lovely Erika who has nominated me to take part in another Freestyle Challenge. I really enjoy doing these as it is interesting to see which way your mind is going to wander given the time pressures and topic you are given.
The rules are:
- Open a blank document.
- Set a stop watch timer to 5 or 10 minutes, whichever length you prefer.
- Your topic is at the foot of this post BUT DO NOT SCROLL DOWN TO SEE IT UNTIL YOU ARE READY WITH YOUR TIMER!!!
My best vacation ever. this was the topic given to me by Erika.
I think for this one, I will go back to when I was 13 years old and the first time I had ever been on holiday abroad. It was actually a German exchange trip that my school was participating in. We had students over here from our twin town in Germany for two weeks. They would stay in our homes, and come to school with us, really just becoming a part of our family. We would then go back to Germany with them and do the same.
As I remember it, I was both excited and nervous. My exchange student was a lovely girl and we got on really well. I remember the first time seeing the pretty little village where she lived. All of the houses were different and seemed huge. Everyone knew each other and they were all very friendly to me.
The first morning I woke up over there I walked into the glass doors leading to the balcony as I didn’t realise they were there! I was very reluctant to eat the food as well, as I was very fussy in my youth and didn’t even like eating in front of people then. I had no choice though as they all sat around the dining table to eat and everyone helped themselves from large bowls of food on the table. I particularly remember the home made strawberry mousse her mother made as I did like that! Of course I managed to dollop some of it onto the prisitine table cloth whilst serving myself!
It was great going to visit her friends in the evenings, I was introduced to Frank Zappa and Camel cigarettes which even now, always reminds me of those carefree days sitting around a record player, smoking, (They all seemed to have large rooms or basements in their houses where their parents didn’t disturb them)!

My first love!
I can’t wait to see what you come up with!
Great story and memory Judy, and thank you for nominating me.
I’ve already completed this challenge once and have got quite a bit scheduled to go out over the coming days before I return to Wales and the prospect of no broadband again! We are then off to Dartmouth for five days. With all that in mind I don’t think I’ll have a chance to get around to doing the challenge again, but wanted to thank you for nominating me.
Thank you for all your support. You might like to hear that your guest post has been the most viewed post on my blog during June 🙂

That’s ok Hugh, you certainly have a lot going on. I appreciate all the support you have given to me too , and it has been a real privilege featuring on your blog throughout June.
I am looking forward to the continuing ‘Murder at the Vicarage’ saga too 🙂

Thanks, Edwina for the nomination. I’m still three quotes challenges behind from three nominators. I doubt I’ll get them done as well because I’m going off line this Friday until September (if I can stay away that long). I have a number of projects I need to complete and will need the summer to do so. I will miss reading everyone’s lovely posts but I must step back for a while. I’ll send out a note latter part of week. ❤

Well done! I struggled with this one but you’ve done well. Now, what of those Frank Zappa records…..

I love “back in the olden days tales” especially when they include record players. Do people know what they are these days?

I pretty much doubt it! 🙂

You did really well! When you nominated me for this challenge a little while back, I sucked at it. I didn’t publish it because it sucked so bad…but I will link it in with another idea I’m working on.

I can’t imagine that you sucked at it at all! I look forward to seeing the link 🙂

Thank you Tonya, Yes, I subsequently went back for a few years, even travelled to Germany on my own when I was 14! There is of course, no way you would let your kids do that nowadays!

You did amazing as always, Judy! What a beautiful story about your time in a German household and really funny. I can relate to the problem of not wanting to eat in front of others. I was shy as a teenager too and felt observed although that was nonsens. Hey, great!!! And I also love the topic you choose for your nominees! Today is Love day on our blogs… 🙂
