Episode 481: Invasion of the Man ‘Flu!

Poor old Mr Grump has got the flu and I am the one suffering for it! He came home from work yesterday sneezing his head off, complained of aching all over and was generally whining and moaning! Luckily I packed him off to bed early with a cup of tea and Lemsip, and told him to get a good rest, whilst I had a bit of peace and quiet downstairs.

When I went up to bed he was still awake, sneezing, and snotty. The dog was snoring her head off , and just as I thought, no-one got a good sleep (well Roxy did actually)! This morning’s wake-up call was Roxy doing her usual licking Mr Grump’s bald head as it was 6.30 and time for her walk.

I was sleepy but took one look at Mr Grump’s bright red nose, and swollen eyes huffily got dressed and took Roxy for her walk. Once I got back and fed the dog it was then the ordeal of waking Miss Hap up for school (they went back yesterday).Mr Grump appeared in his dressing gown looking pale and weary having phoned in sick at work.

I finally got Miss Hap off and thought I would have a really lazy day today sorting out my blog and doing other bits as I had planned but oh no, Mr Grump plonks himself down on his chair.

I told him to go to bed, but no, he wanted someone to witness his suffering and I was the unlucky one! I was catching up with some blogs when out of nowhere  came

“ATISHHHHHHHOOOOO!” It made me jump out of my skin and I was none to happy when this was repeated at regular intervals ruining my concentration!  He still wouldn’t go to bed, but did stuff a tissue up each nostril to stop the dripping and hopefully sneezing,

By now I was to do a bit of knitting so sat down to watch the TV whilst I did so. I was mad as the channel had seemed to have morphed from Crime & Investigation (which I love), to one which was showing NCIS (although I do like this, I was in the mood for a bit of ‘how to bump your husband off’ type crime)!

I ended up having a nap. Then I had to cook dinner (3 separate meals as well)! This is supposed to be my week off. He always does this when I get a bit of time to myself, so I told him he had better hurry up and get better!

Are you sympathetic to man ‘flu?

  1. My son was home from work today, visiting the porcelain bowl and looking for sympathy. Fortunately, he spent most of the day in bed. He’s not too pleased that I seem to be more worried that he’s contagious than that he’s sick. Poor baby. Not 🙂

  2. When The Mister is sick, he is a very good boy and takes to his bed. Now, when he comes out for any reason, he’s as mean as any injured animal, but at least he suffers in seclusion!
I commiserate with you on what you were GOING to do being tossed. On days The Mister is not working but the girls are in school, I cannot seem to get anything done. And then, if you can imagine, he’d like to eat breakfast and lunch as well! O_o

    1. It seems like the Mister has got it right when he is ill by keeping out of the way! I agree with you in that normally when I get time to myself I don’t get things done.I would have liked the chance to find that out though! 🙂

  3. Sad, funny and all too true…men cannot deal with illness. Luckily in the six years I have been with my hubby, he has only been sick twice. He wasn’t too bad–he just slept the whole time. Hope your hubby gets well quickly for your sake 🙂

  4. You have the sympathy of every woman who has discovered that she would rather take on the illness itself, rather than deal with the drama of the male version of sick. They should lock themselves away for a few days, not infect the household, but that almost never happens. It seems they need the audience. Best of luck to you, Judy. ☺

  5. I have little sympathy coz I get it often! Poor auld Mr Grump, he looks a picture and his bald head is glowing from his extraordinary high temperature that comes with man flu… women don’t know what it’s like to suffer as we do 😉

  6. I always sympathise when Manflu raises its head………….with the woman! Us gals just get on with everything that has to be done and is the guy in our life considerate and sympathetic to our needs, providing tissues, vick, lemsips and TLC?
Well, yeah. My guy does. The one before didn’t though!!
Get well soon Sir (and buy the wife some flowers).

  7. We have a product here, can’t remember the name, that reduces the length by up to half. Basically, it’s a zinc tablet that dissolves on the tounge. Though I have seen liquids and nasal sprays that claim the same thing. Then again, your a nurse, there’s the ole saw, “a Valium a day makes hubby okay”, or at least knocks him out.
