This poem I wrote a few years ago about how awkward and clumsy I am. Unfortunately, nothing has changed over the years, and I am still a walking calamity!

Oh how I wish I was graceful

and not a disaster on wheels

I trip over every obstacle

And my shoes have got broken off heels

I try so hard to be upright

But always fall flat on my face

My body is covered in bruises

From where I have fallen from grace

I long to be elegant and classy

But that is just not to be

Whilst others are sipping their cocktails

I’m knocking over my tea.

Life for me would be perfect

If only I was more chic

Instead of awkward and bumbling

And coming across as a freak

Oh how I wish I was graceful

But life is not very fair

So I’ll carry on being clumsy

And pretending that I just don’t care!

  1. Lol!! That could be me you’re writing about. I have had many less than graceful tumbles, the most notable being falling down the steps when disemarking off a planbe. I landed on the tarmac in a tangled heap. And to top it off was transported to the terminal in one of those buggy thingys to the arms of my waiting family 😦

  2. I tried to share this to my site but it only gives the title and makes it look as if I wrote it, so I copied and pasted it. I hope you don’t mind that. I added a comment to make it clear you wrote it.

    1. Thank you and I am flattered that it reminded you of Pam Ayres as this is the one I wrote especially trying to emulate her style!
I remember that poem ‘I Should have looked after my teeth’ so well, and can almost hear her reciting it in her West Country accent! πŸ™‚

  3. Yesterday I accidentally stepped on a crap just outside the house left by a stray dog and I literally yelled, broadcasted what happened to everyone around while laughing and trying to clean the mess. Something about it suggests strongly that it felt good being awkward on any day and still laugh the flaw off. Anyway I was just sharing it.

Glad I found your blog on aopiniantedman.com. Am looking forward for more fun read! πŸ™‚

  4. I love this!I haven’t read all of the comments you’ve received on this poem but I suspect you’ve received many saying they can relate. I’m a nurse. I wear steady, reliable flat shoes. And yet I can slip over a piece of dust…I know, it doesn’t instill much faith in my patients when they see their nurse stumble into their room.

  5. Great poem, and true of myself! For as athletic as I am, I am a huge klutz: broke my nose swimming at league champs in high school, tore my hamstring rounding 3rd base in softball, broke a toenail tripping just walking down the street. LOL! Glad to know I’m not alone.

    1. Thanks so much Janice. I am just taking your advice about Pinterest. I didn’t realise that I never set up a Pinterest share button on my blog and that none of my posts are on there! Just putting a few on now to see what happens πŸ™‚

  6. I have always been Klutzy. My husband would just chuckle and say “What did you do to yourself now?”. A couple years ago had some issues and then MRI which showed lesions etc. They still have not decided what IT is. I just take each day as it comes and laugh at it. Still I think some of it is basically I am just a klutz lol.

    1. Hi Donna. Thanks so much for coming over to my blog and commenting. I m pleased also to meet a fellow klutz. I can trip over anything (or sometimes even nothing) and I am forever banging into things. I hope the lesions to out to be harmless, and that you continue to laugh at yourself. (You can laugh at me too now if you like)!
